Summer is on its way to Europe and North America. This is the time to snooze a bit more with good conscious… It is the Pitta season as warmer weather increases heat in our systems.
Perhaps counter-intuitively for people living in cooler climates, our body energy is actually slowly getting depleted. Because Kapha decreases this time of the year. So, to stay healthy better avoid intense exercises. Take a siesta instead!
Stay cool in your body and balance the heat by eating sweet, light and moisty things. Easy to digest smoothies, lassi and porridge are good. So are fresh salads and soups with fish or lean meat and basmati or red rice.
Drink room temperature water with mint leaves. A little wine or beer is ok, but no strong alcohol as it heats up your body.
Wear light and lose fitting cotton clothes. Take refreshing baths. Apply cooling face masks like Sandalwood paste or some cooling herbs mixed with yoghurt. If done regularly these are a refreshing practices.
Don’t put ice in your drinks. It creates too big difference in temperature, disturbs your digestion, cause Kapha to increase phlegm and a runny nose. Especially if you are in a humid place.
And, most important of all, try to enjoy your life. Make the most of what you have. Spend time outdoors in the nature. Talk with your family, friends and neighbours. Remember laughter is the best medicine!
Stay healthy & happy!
